This is a good time for me to thank you all for the work you do to bring the full terrible truth that global climate disruption is to the world.
I know that Anthony Marr and Steve Best are two of very few people in our entire world who have the moral integrity to have been working actively for the rapidly vanishing hope of keeping this planet habitable for today’s children living in all regions and indeed for most adults alive today.
The reason of course as recognized by them both is global climate change and specifically the changes happening to the Arctic.
Incredibly next month's UN Copenhagen Climate Conference arranged at the UN Bali Conference specifically as the last chance for humanity to prevent global climate catastrophe has been officially declared a failure before it has begun.
The animal rights vegetarian/ vegan movement is doing a huge amount more to save (literally) life on earth than anyone else.
This month Worldwatch published a paper finding that the livestock to meat industry is responsible for over 50% of global warming greenhouse gas emissions largely because methane has a far stronger global warming effect than has been recognized. It is 3 to 4
times as powerful as carbon dioxide.
Methane emissions are barely addressed by the climate change scientists and it has not been recognized for mitigation.
Methane in addition to huge global warming effect over its lifetime in the atmosphere of 12years goes on heating by being oxidized
to other GHGases notably CO2. This is ignored by h3e science.
The fact is therefore that Humanity and almost all life on Earth will not survive unless the raising of livestock for slaughter is STOPPED totally.
Not only are the lives of all children living in all regions now in peril - the lives of almost all people alive today are in peril.
The reason as Anthony has tried to warn the world of is that runaway global heating is imminent.
The atmospheric methane that has increased 150% (CO2 34%) has been spiking since 2006 due to the rapidly warming Arctic emitting methane which is as carbon feedback the most dangerous effect of global warming to survival of all life on Earth.
The Arctic holds at least four times all the carbon in the atmosphere- safely frozen till recently. Permafrost is thawing and has for several years been emitting methane as it does across the Arctic. Subsea frozen solid methane gas lying on the sea bed off the Siberian coast is melting and releasing methane into the water that bubbles up to emit into the atmosphere. The scientists said this could not happen.
Before I go any further,if the world awakens from its stupid denial,there are measures that might just save us- because now it is our lives that are in peril.
The cooling albedo effect of the 2.7 Square miles of summer Arctic sea ice will be practically gone within 10 years and some scientists say as early as 2013. The ice is thinning. One summer all that expanse of white will suddenly vanish to expose heat absorbing dark ocean water to the Arctic summer sun.
As a result the global warming will be boosted suddenly 20% (not including the latent heat of melting ice as Anthony has realized).
Now, this is an emergency for all of us in North America. The summer Arctic is the air conditioner of the entire Northern hemisphere. Its loss will be felt all the way the South West US that is in a perpetual drought because of global warming already.
Central continental North America will be heated up to double the global average. There will be huge rapid losses to the world’s bread basket.
At the same time the rate of permafrost thaw in the Arctic will triple and the Arctic methane hydrates will all release explosively from the ocean floor. Just 0.5% of the Arctic methane hydrates would increase atmospheric methane by a factor of 12.
So you can see how obvious it is that today’s global temperature increase of 0.8C
is certain catastrophe if nothing is done about it. At today's 0.8C all the methane will be released from the Arctic- just a matter of time and not much time at that. That is because Arctic methane emissions from global warming is a self accelerating global heating effect
Even so the scientific and environmental organizations are sticking to their insane 2C global temperature increase target.
This guarantees the end of most all life on Earth, but it seems it is better that life ends than they are found to be wrong.
They are united in not stating that atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations are dangerous interference to the climate system as is defined by the UN 1992 Framework Convention on Climate Change (they claim it is not).
They are united in refusing to support James Hansen (NASA top climate expert) in saying we are a state of global emergency.
Thereby they think they are protecting the fossil fueled economy which they see as their source of income while pretending that they are doing all they can to protect the future of Humanity and life on Earth. They are so stupid they are not even trying to save their own lives.
So we all must quit eating flesh as if our lives depended on it- which they do.
We must demand the scientists and NGOs tell the full terrible truth- only then will there be any hope for this beautiful most precious special planet we call Earth. If they do not the perpetual spreading is not far away. The science is basic and simple. As the planet warms it drives the circulation of water vapour with more energy. More water vapour aloft heats the planet more because water vapour is a greenhouse gas. But the water is forced and concentrated to the far north especially northern Siberia. It is no use there for growing food and it will result in the water logged thawing permafrost emitting more methane. Another inconvenient fact is that more water will fall into the oceans. The water that does fall on the small proportion of agricultural land will come more often in torrents and floods. We are losing top soil rapidly now from drying and more by water run off. Both will increase with more global warming.
Money does not grow food.
It needs a regular predictable climate right amount of warmth and right amount of water at the rights times with a minimum of extreme weather.
