Anthony Marr's Letter to the Emperor of Japan

Since I posted my Japan pieces, my Space has come under intense scrutiny from diverse sources in Japan. Latest is a series of 20 hits over the last 24 hours, from a source, would you believe, right within the grounds of the Japanese Imperial Palace! I admit that I have fantasized about speaking with the Prime Minister of Canada, and the Queen of England, and the President of the United States, and the President of China, and even the Pope, but never have I imagined a meeting of minds with the Emperor of Japan. So now that I have inadvertently captured his attention, I may as well open to him my heart and mind, and thereby to the whole people of Japan. And this is what I have to say:

Your Majesty,

I am speaking as Anthony Marr, for myself, but I believe I am also speaking on behalf of millions of compassionate people around the world, who abhor the cruelty and arrogance of whaling and dolphining. I, we, have a very simple request to make to Your Majesty:

Please end whaling, and the slaughtering and capturing of dolphins, and relegate these obsolescent practices forever into the past.

This is it. I am not saying "or else", nor am I calling for a boycott. I just want to appeal to your sense of justice and compassion, to please spare the whales and dolphins the horrible fate to which they have been subjected by your whaling and dolphining industries. Please bear in mind, and at heart, that there is no humane way to kill a whale or a dolphin, and that these are highly social creatures whose love for each other is no less than yours and mine.

And further, Your Majesty, I appeal to your sense of love and obligation for the Japanese people to stop feeding them whale and dolphin meat which we all know are overladen with mercury and other toxins. I make this appeal especially on behalf of the children of Japan, whose mental development is highly susceptible to the retarding effects of mercury. I have always held the intelligence of the Japanese people in high esteem, and would hate to see Japanese children dumbed down for the profit of a globally reviled industry.

Your majesty, your country has enormous wealth. The prosperity of the Japanese economy will not suffer to any significant degree by the shutting down of the whaling industry, and in Taiji, there are only 27 dolphin killers against the will of the world.

During my visits to your country, Your Majesty, I have been impressed by the congeniality, discipline and sense of honor amongst the Japanese people. But where is the honor of claiming what in essence is commercial whaling to be "RESEARCH"?

I also know for a fact that from the heart the Japanese people can be highly compassionate. I have seen people in other Japanese villages rescuing stranded dolphins and beached whales rather than exploiting them, much less killing them. I ask you to honor these compassionate villagers instead of those without mercy.

As you may have gathered, I was born in China during the Japanese invasion. The stories I have heard of massacre, rape, torture and pillage, and articles I have read, and pictures I have seen, are horrendous beyond measure. I have lost family members directly at Japanese hands. China lost 20 million civilians in a Chinese Holocaust forced by Japan. I have reason to be furious with your country. I'm sure that you would understand had it happened to you, Your Majesty.











But, for the whales, and the dolphins, and the children of Japan, I pledge to you that if you will stop whaling and dolphining, I will leave all my fury behind, and celebrate a more compassionate future with the people of Japan, I give you my word. And just as seriously, we who are driven by compassion will never rest. This is not a threat; it is just in our nature.

Please allow me one final question, Your Majesty - Are pride and profit worth damaging the Japanese reputation and character? And one last suggestion, that Japan leads the remaining whaling nations out of the dark ages into enlightenment.

CHILDREN HUNTERS

Dear Placer County,

Below is a recent article in The Union newspaper, Grass Valley, CA. This is a perfect example of the possibilities/probabilities of carrying on an old uncivilized tradition of killing animals. The days of “needing to kill animals to survive have long past. In the last 100 years, we have advanced as a society to realize many things. Have we not embraced the medical field for it’s advances? Have we not been educated to what is healthy to eat and what is not healthy to eat? And the technology has moved light years. Let us grow up and become sensitized to respect other life forms and their place on this planet. Let go the old, ignorant ways and be responsible, intelligent human beings. The reality is bloody, ugly and unnecessary.
Despite what Fish and Game, and hunters tell us, hunting is clearly a dangerous sport. Every year, about 100 people are killed by hunters in the US, and approximately 1,000 people are wounded.
Hunters can and will shoot too close to houses, roads, hikers and campers.- According to the International Hunter Education Association, in 1995, 1130 non-fatal hunting accidents occurred, and 112 people were killed- In 1996, 957 humans were wounded and 91 humans were killed by hunters-Ted Nugent claims to kill every domestic cat that he sees, and you may read about his animal-killing insanity on this Anti-hunting Resource Site

12-year-old boy dies after hunting accident near North San Juan
Authorities Sunday were investigating the shooting death of a 12-year-old boy who was hunting with his family near North San Juan.
The boy was hunting deer with a group of family and friends Saturday morning in an area between North San Juan and Malakoff Diggins State Historic Park when he was shot in the left ribs, according to sheriff's reports.
It could not be confirmed whether the boy, who was not identified Sunday, was from Nevada County.
Investigators believe the boy accidentally shot himself with a high-powered rifle. He was conscious and breathing when a 911 call was placed shortly after 11 a.m. Saturday. CPR was administered while an ambulance was en route, according to sheriff's reports.
Members of the hunting party put him in a pickup truck and drove until they met the ambulance on Lake City Road, according to Calfire spokeswoman Lynne Tolmachoff.
Calfire was on the scene by 12:13 p.m., an hour after the first 911 call, dispatch records show. Paramedics administered CPR, but the boy was pronounced dead at the scene, Tolmachoff said. More information about the accident is expected Monday, Moon added.

Pet owners who live near hunting areas may find their beloved pets dead or missing




AND MOST OF THE TIME THESE POOR INNOCENT ANIMALS ARE ONLY INJURED BEFORE THEY DIE PAINFUL SLOW DEATHS. 
THIS POOR BABY HAD HER LOWER JAW SHOT OFF, AND HAD TO BE PUT DOWN, BUT AS YOU CAN SEE NOT BEFORE SHE SUFFERED PAIN AND FRIGHT.

THERE ARE ALTERNATIVES: THE EPA HAS JUST APPROVED THE
ANTHONY MARR’S MORAL, SANE, JUST, AND PRAGMATIC PLAN:
(http://www.all-creatures.org/hope/about-am.htm), has devised a brilliant nonlethal solution to the perceived problem of deer over-population.
Back in the late 1990s, Anthony Marr worked in 3 tigers reserves in India, and the idea originally stemmed from there. One of the problems he had to deal with was deer (Cheetal) coming out of the parks to raid the surrounding farm land. One of his challenges was to round them up and move them back into the park. Considering that cheetal deer are extremely fleet-footed, the only thing that could work was the Deer Auto Assembler.
The DAA is an extremely simple device, involving nothing more than fencing and one-way gates.



The DAA Marr set up in India was no bigger than a basketball court. He installed one inward-facing one-way gate on each side of the enclosure, put some food inside, and just let it sit. Within days, the DAA would be full of deer, which he then transported back into the park. How this technology can be applied to Shawnee Mission Park is as follows:
Set aside 10-50 acres for a Deer Auto-Assembler (DAA), which involves fencing it, with inward one-way gates every hundred yards or so.
Place food inside the gates as enticement. Deer will enter but cannot leave. In this case, assuming it is correct that the total deer population is 400, and the optimal deer population is 25 (which Marr believes could be too low), let 375 enter the DAA, leaving 25 outside, then lock the gate.
Apply Immuno-Contraception (IC) on the deer using the PZP multi-year vaccine. The PZP vaccine is highly effective and inexpensive – between $20 and $40 per dose, as opposed to $300-$500 per deer to use a sharpshooter.
The PZP multi-year vaccine is a pellet administered by hand injection. A sub-mechanism of the DAA is a small internal compartment in one corner with a narrow chute covered by black fabric ending in a food trough, where the deer can be easily injected through the fabric while they feed. The deer will not see the operator, and no handling of the deer is required.
Feed the deer inside the DAA to keep them in prime condition and to protect the ecology within the DAA. The DAA can be used as a wildlife viewing area, complete with viewing tower, which could bring in revenue.
Each year let a few deer into the DAA to maintain the outside population at 25 (or a higher number). Apply IC on the new deer which have entered the DAA.
The deer in the DAA will age and die off, except for the few new ones allowed to enter the DAA from year to year. After the initial several years the deer population inside the DAA will decline due to death by aging, while the deer population outside the DAA will be kept near 25 from year to year.
Problem solved without the need to kill a single deer.
Shooting with guns or bows is not effective due to the Compensatory Rebound Effect, where an increase in food per deer will maximize the deer’s reproductive rate significantly.
Bow-hunting has a close to 50% non-lethal wounding rate, so that for every animal killed and recovered, at least one would be non-fatally wounded. Unrecovered animals die slowly and painfully of infection or starvation. Those who don’t die often suffer disabling injuries.

This is a good time for me to thank you all for the work you do to bring the full terrible truth that global climate disruption is to the world.

I know that Anthony Marr and Steve Best are two of very few people in our entire world who have the moral integrity to have been working actively for the rapidly vanishing hope of keeping this planet habitable for today’s children living in all regions and indeed for most adults alive today.



The reason of course as recognized by them both is global climate change and specifically the changes happening to the Arctic.

Incredibly next month's UN Copenhagen Climate Conference arranged at the UN Bali Conference specifically as the last chance for humanity to prevent global climate catastrophe has been officially declared a failure before it has begun.



The animal rights vegetarian/ vegan movement is doing a huge amount more to save (literally) life on earth than anyone else.

This month Worldwatch published a paper finding that the livestock to meat industry is responsible for over 50% of global warming greenhouse gas emissions largely because methane has a far stronger global warming effect than has been recognized. It is 3 to 4

times as powerful as carbon dioxide.



Methane emissions are barely addressed by the climate change scientists and it has not been recognized for mitigation.

Methane in addition to huge global warming effect over its lifetime in the atmosphere of 12years goes on heating by being oxidized

to other GHGases notably CO2. This is ignored by h3e science.

The fact is therefore that Humanity and almost all life on Earth will not survive unless the raising of livestock for slaughter is STOPPED totally.



Not only are the lives of all children living in all regions now in peril - the lives of almost all people alive today are in peril.

The reason as Anthony has tried to warn the world of is that runaway global heating is imminent.

The atmospheric methane that has increased 150% (CO2 34%) has been spiking since 2006 due to the rapidly warming Arctic emitting methane which is as carbon feedback the most dangerous effect of global warming to survival of all life on Earth.

The Arctic holds at least four times all the carbon in the atmosphere- safely frozen till recently. Permafrost is thawing and has for several years been emitting methane as it does across the Arctic. Subsea frozen solid methane gas lying on the sea bed off the Siberian coast is melting and releasing methane into the water that bubbles up to emit into the atmosphere. The scientists said this could not happen.





Before I go any further,if the world awakens from its stupid denial,there are measures that might just save us- because now it is our lives that are in peril.



The cooling albedo effect of the 2.7 Square miles of summer Arctic sea ice will be practically gone within 10 years and some scientists say as early as 2013. The ice is thinning. One summer all that expanse of white will suddenly vanish to expose heat absorbing dark ocean water to the Arctic summer sun.



As a result the global warming will be boosted suddenly 20% (not including the latent heat of melting ice as Anthony has realized).

Now, this is an emergency for all of us in North America. The summer Arctic is the air conditioner of the entire Northern hemisphere. Its loss will be felt all the way the South West US that is in a perpetual drought because of global warming already.



Central continental North America will be heated up to double the global average. There will be huge rapid losses to the world’s bread basket.



At the same time the rate of permafrost thaw in the Arctic will triple and the Arctic methane hydrates will all release explosively from the ocean floor. Just 0.5% of the Arctic methane hydrates would increase atmospheric methane by a factor of 12.



So you can see how obvious it is that today’s global temperature increase of 0.8C

is certain catastrophe if nothing is done about it. At today's 0.8C all the methane will be released from the Arctic- just a matter of time and not much time at that. That is because Arctic methane emissions from global warming is a self accelerating global heating effect



Even so the scientific and environmental organizations are sticking to their insane 2C global temperature increase target.

This guarantees the end of most all life on Earth, but it seems it is better that life ends than they are found to be wrong.

They are united in not stating that atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations are dangerous interference to the climate system as is defined by the UN 1992 Framework Convention on Climate Change (they claim it is not).

They are united in refusing to support James Hansen (NASA top climate expert) in saying we are a state of global emergency.

Thereby they think they are protecting the fossil fueled economy which they see as their source of income while pretending that they are doing all they can to protect the future of Humanity and life on Earth. They are so stupid they are not even trying to save their own lives.



So we all must quit eating flesh as if our lives depended on it- which they do.

We must demand the scientists and NGOs tell the full terrible truth- only then will there be any hope for this beautiful most precious special planet we call Earth. If they do not the perpetual spreading is not far away. The science is basic and simple. As the planet warms it drives the circulation of water vapour with more energy. More water vapour aloft heats the planet more because water vapour is a greenhouse gas. But the water is forced and concentrated to the far north especially northern Siberia. It is no use there for growing food and it will result in the water logged thawing permafrost emitting more methane. Another inconvenient fact is that more water will fall into the oceans. The water that does fall on the small proportion of agricultural land will come more often in torrents and floods. We are losing top soil rapidly now from drying and more by water run off. Both will increase with more global warming.

Money does not grow food.

It needs a regular predictable climate right amount of warmth and right amount of water at the rights times with a minimum of extreme weather.

On November 3, 2009 in a WAR action alert, we asked the question "what ever happened to Oreo", the young dog (i year old) that was thrown from the rooftop of a 6 story Brooklyn building? Many of you wrote to the ASPCA and many of you forwarded the ASPCA's written replies to WAR. Mr. Sayres tell those who wrote that Oreo is doing well, still healing and that a decision has not been made about what to do next.

Now the whole ugly truth is starting to come out, as the ASPCA frantically tries to spin the story, in a way that will protect the ASPCA from scrutiny. See the New York Times story that was just published:

Dear Mr. Sayres,

I represent the animal rights/animal liberation group Win Animal Rights based here in New York City. Win Animal Rights has both national and international affiliations. It was at our invitation that many activists contacted you at the ASPCA to ask about the status of the young pit bull that was thrown from a Brooklyn roof and "rescued" by the ASPCA. Many of our readers have forwarded your responses to us. Many initially believed the misleading information you sent them. Mr. Sayres, why are you lying to people?

We both know that the implication, in your e-mail responses, that you are holding Oreo until the end of the criminal action against Fabian Henderson, is untrue. Mr. Henderson relinquished ownership of Oreo to the ASPCA many months ago. If you had to hold her for legal reasons, why is it that you have given the order to kill her on Friday, November 13th?

We both know that Oreo is not still healing. If anything Oreo is now suffering from emotional abuse that she has suffered since being "rescued" by the ASPCA. She has sat in a cage with very limited human interaction. She wears an elizabethan collar 24 hours a day, seven days a week.....not because she needs it, but, because it makes her easier for your people to handle. This alone would make a dog crazy. How can you be so cruel?

Speaking of cruel, no doubt the ASPCA had the best of intentions when you "rescued" Oreo and put her through extensive surgery and a lengthy and painful convalescence, or did it have something to do with the media attention on the story and the thousands of dollars that have been received in donations for Oreo? Do Oreo's donors know that you are about to execute her? How do you think they would feel about their donation dollars being wasted and more donation dollars used to put her to death?

Why is it that you did not report, to those who wrote, about the ASPCA behaviorist advocating that Oreo was, in her opinion, aggressive and a liability and that she could not be rehomed? Why is it that you did not tell anyone that a second behaviorist has since been brought in (as ignorant as the first) to support the ASPCA's decision to kill Oreo? Did you think you could keep this information from the public?

How is it that you tell some that Oreo is getting plenty of daily human interaction when you tell others that she is vicious and cannot be handled by anyone? Seems like you are getting caught in the web of your own lies. Is Oreo vicious and unable to be handled, as your behaviorist claims, or is she getting plenty of love and human interaction?

It has been reported to Win Animal Rights, that the decision to kill Oreo was made some time ago and that only the ASPCA's fear of negative publicity has kept you from executing her so far. If negative publicity is a deterrent to killing, we would be happy to provide you with all of the negative publicity you can handle.

This letter and the facts of the case are being broadcast to every journalist, every blogger, every social networking venue and every animal friendly list in the world. If Oreo is executed, we will not forgive you and we will never forget such a shameless act of betrayal. You have my personal word on that.

Every individual life is precious. Please live up to your name, American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and your mission statement. If the ASPCA cannot rehabilitate Oreo and undo the damage of over 5 months in solitude in an ASPCA cage, at least find a group that can help Oreo. We both know that there are rescue groups and sanctuaries that work with dogs with behavioral problems. I am sure they would be happy to release the ASPCA from all legal liability. WHO/WHAT IS MIA??

3 years ago I started my myspace page to connect and network with everyone and anyone who is a AR Activist/Advocate. This has been my passion since before I was born, when my mother lived with a friend, “Virginia”, in San Francisco who rescued animals. Virginia had at that time 200 cats and 30 dogs and 1 capuchin monkey rescued from a Lab. I was completely ecstatic to find such like minded/hearted people as friends here. Found organizations that I had supported here and there over the years and people I had heard about here and there. Paul Watson was one of those people. When I initially went to his page, he had that picture on his profile of him standing on that rock, full beard in the Antarctica. I was impressed at his continued work to save the Whales all these years. I started reading all his blogs and was also impressed that he was communicating with his readers on a down to earth, honest level. I made so many wonderful friends that shared the same passion as I do and we all spent every spare moment we had reposting and spreading awareness. There were some who created labor intensive beautiful bulletins. And those same people were attacked viciously shortly after Mia started dating Capt Watson.
　
This has presented a serious issue here. I have observed and paid attention to this only because 2 reasons, 1. The actions of this one person has caused a complete breakdown in this movement. 2. Good and wonderful people here on my space trying with all their heart and soul to make a difference in a very unjust cruel world. These people are loyal and hard working for the animals, whales and seals. They gave moral support and financial to Captain Watson in times when there was no Whale Wars Show. Whoever had the money would donate, even people living paycheck to paycheck (as myself) would shop the SSCS store as Christmas/Birthday Gifts. But if nothing else their spare time to further the cause any way they could. So, How on earth, could someone who is obviously not an animal rights advocate/activist or “Ocean Conservationist”, come into this movement and take control of someone who has been considered a “Leader “ in this realm? I have read almost every, if not all Blogs Captain Watson has written over the last 3 years. Everything that Ms. Manifold represents in society is exactly what Capt. Watson has declared he hated. Manifold is pretentious, narcissistic, shallow and cruel. It is clear to “EVERYONE”, except Capt Watson at this time, what Mia has been here for, to self promote and vilify. “I have washed my hands of the SSCS here who are truly a pathetic bunch” . She made this comment right before the date of November 1st came with her promise to marry Captain Watson, she changed her mind at the last minute for Stefano, (some ask, “is Stefano even real“?)

I remember seeing Mia around since about a yr ago. I never requested her as a friend because it was obvious to me why she was on myspace. I never saw her promoting anything but her own agenda of heavy flirting. Mia had made her rounds before settling on Capt Watson. If anyone remembers last year, before Peter Boyd had left myspace and his wonderful support of Sea Shepherd, he had written a blog to explain what Mia had done to him, and with a very educated explanation of her mental illness that makes her behave this way.
Still, you have to wonder if she has another agenda for being here on my space? Since she has caused SO MANY loyal, loyal supporters to be banished with a wave of her sword!! “Off WITH THEIR HEADS”, Mia, has accomplished destruction and dissention in this movement, which, by the way IS THE BUSINESS OF EVERYONE IN THIS AR MOVEMENT. THIS IS NO JOKE AND NOT TO BE TAKEN LIGHTLY, NOT ONLY BECAUSE, CAPTAIN WATSON IS HELD TO A HIGHER STANDARD OF ETHICAL BEHAVIOR AS A REPRESENTATIVE OF THE ANIMAL RIGHTS MOVEMENT!!!!BUT I WILL NOT SEE ALL THE HARD WORK EVERYONE HAS DONE TO BRING ABOUT THIS AWARENESS AND BRING THESE HORRORS THAT ALL THE ANIMALS/MAMMALS ARE SUFFERING!! WE ARE ALL CONNECTED HERE, AND I WILL NOT SEE THIS MOVEMENT GO BACKWARDS! ALSO I AND MANY OTHERS ARE VERY CONFUSED WHY AND HOW THIS IS TAKING PLACE? Why does anyone that can come out of nowhere and cause this much trouble has to be considered as a suspect of espionage. Example:
“Here’s the problem: it’s well-known that there are industry-paid plants within the movement that exist solely to discredit activists and further marginalize animal rights. For those of us who refuse to be passive, quiet and tolerant, our passion is a threat. Yet, our passion also provides the mechanism by which a calculating agent provocateur can manipulate any one of us. We all have a “sixth sense”… something that tells us something is not right… and to dismiss this survival instinct is sheer foolishness.”
I want to share a few characteristics of which we all need to be aware. I’ve always dismissed idiocy but now I recognize that there are behaviors that, while individually may be taken in jest, when viewed as a whole create an extremely troublesome pattern. These are serious issues and we never know exactly with whom we’re dealing:
“There’s no question that state oppression seeks to crush the animal rights movement. And our own safety is paramount if we are to be effective activists. When we are advised to do things that jeopardize us, STOP. Something is wrong.
RED FLAG. No one who has our best interest or that of the movement at heart would not say anything that would jeopardize us in the eyes of the enemy.
Divide and Conquer: When one tries to deliberately create obstacles between friends and/or allies, we need to STOP and examine what is going on.
When someone creates a situation and then makes impotent attempts to convince us that someone else is to blame, this is a red flag. When someone degrades our friends, thus trying to divide alliances, this is a problem. .
In a broader sense, when different factions in the movement are in conflict and debate, the agent provocateur may step forward to foster unproductive drama and incite chaos. Although the method might appear to be madness, I believe it is an injection of calculated chaos.”
DOES ANY OF THIS SOUND FAMILIAR?

How is it possible that someone who has virtually no history as a activist and as vicious as Mia is actually in a position of power? But if that is not the case, Mia is just that nasty of a person. Let’s look at this with objectivity here for a moment. The people here on my space as AR activists care about someone other than themselves. They give up whatever resources they have for someone else, yet all Mia does is hang out with cows that are going to slaughter, publicly declare her meat eating habits, go to the spa, be a ski bunny, flirt and consort with many men online for all to see and relish in her Big Fish in a Small Pond syndrome.
AND AS FOR THE ISSUE OF PEOPLE HERE NEEDING TO MIND THEIR OWN BUSINESS OF HER RELATIONSHIP WITH CAPTAIN WATSON, THEN KEEP IT PRIVATE, YOU BOTH FLAUNTED IT IN EVERYONES FACE LIKE A HORMONE DRIVEN SCHOOL GIRL, IT WAS/IS TO HURL OVER.
This was something that Mia must have insisted on, to make the relationship public, since no one remembers him doing that with any of his other relationships. But on point again, and the reason I care about any of this is the damage this has caused the Animal Rights Movement, by discrediting a Great Leader, causing him (you) to delete thousands of his loyal supporters. Captain Watson went from 10,000 supporters having him on their Top 40, and is now down to 55. This does not make sense. These actions caused dissention between friends and discredited our whole movement with any respect from outsiders, including the Japanese Whaler’s. You don’t think they have watched all this ridicules behavior? This is unacceptable. We need to stay the course and focused and strong together to stop the horrors that take place of torturing, murdering, and slaughtering. This stupid game has put us back 10 steps when we only move one at a time. I don’t know how or why you have done this Mia, but you need to leave now, and stay on your Mountain top, protected in your own little world. Say “Hi” to your Daddy for me.
FOOTNOTE: BTW, I realize this freedom of speech session here will banish me from some of my friends and Paul Watson, and I am very sad to know this, but I am here for the underdog, humans and animals alike, and won’t be the 1st time I have experienced a negative reaction from sharing my opinion. I will go as Far as I need to, to save the Animals and the credibility and sustainability of this movement for them.
